When the weather is nice, you want your kids to be active and play outside. Whether playtime is at the local playground or your backyard swing set, you need to know what to look for to make sure the play area is safe. Sometimes the risks don’t appear as obvious as those associated with swimming or biking; but, they are there and easy to spot. You just need to know what to do.

Most of us live in urban centres, rarely venturing out to the country to visit farms and soak up the rural culture. Farms feed families and communities. They are both workplaces with heavy equipment, huge vehicles, specialized implements, large animals and water areas and homes where children live and play.

When the school bells return to their routine ringing in September, it reminds me that there is going to be more traffic on my drive to work and that my days of sailing through the side streets of the city are at an end. I must admit that the two months when the pack-laden kids are not on the streets during the morning rush is my favourite time to drive.
