Fewer injuries. Healthier children. A safer Canada.
Safe Kids Canada’s mission is to lead and inspire a culture of safety across the country using a comprehensive and innovative approach to prevent serious injuries among children, youth and families by:
- Raising awareness
- Developing strategic partnerships
- Brokering knowledge; and
- Advocating.
Donations are a critical source of funding for Safe Kids Canada because we do not receive ongoing government health care funding. We depend primarily on corporate partners, sponsors and individual donors to support our work. Funds go towards providing objective, credible, current and useful injury prevention information to parents, and those who work with children, to help everyone keep our kids safe.
With your help:
- We respond to more than 2,500 public inquiries each year from our Safe Tip information phone line and by e-mail.
- We review, update and maintain accurate injury prevention information for both parents and professionals who work with children, including police, healthcare workers and teachers. Our website is visited almost 850 times per day on average.
- Safe Kids Canada crafts and distributes child safety awareness messages, which are broadcast by media across the country.
- We develop and distribute several injury prevention awareness programs, resources and tools used by thousands of community partners nationwide.
- Safe Kids Canada works with civil servants and elected officials at all levels of government, as well as industry associations and other non-governmental agencies, to advocate for changes in legislation and healthy public policy to protect Canada’s children and youth from unintentional injuries.
Safe Kids Canada is the national injury prevention program of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). We are also a part of Safe Kids WorldWide, a global movement to prevent childhood injury.
