Safe Kids Canada aims to make a difference during UN’s Decade of Action for Road Safety

Safe Kids Canada, the national injury prevention program of The Hospital for Sick Children, will actively participate in the Canadian launch of the United Nations’ Decade of Action for Road Safety with a public event, combined with the national launch of Safe Kids Week, on May 11, 2011.

Officially proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in March 2010, the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 provides a framework to countries and communities to increase action to save lives on the world's roads.

"I call on Member States, international agencies, civil society organizations, businesses and community leaders to ensure that the Decade leads to real improvements,” said UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Safe Kids Week 2011 will focus on increasing awareness of car passenger safety and providing useful information and resources to parents and caregivers to help ensure their children stay safe when travelling. Stay tuned for more details on the launch plans for May 11, 2011.
