Safe Kids Canada congratulates the Federal Government for taking steps to prevent injuries in children

Safe Kids Canada congratulates the Government of Canada for announcing an investment of $5 million over two years to enhance efforts to increase awareness and prevent injuries in sports and recreational activities among children and youth. Preventable injuries are the leading cause of death for Canadian children and youth, which currently does not receive resources commensurate with the burden it poses to the health care system and Canadian families.

"Safe Kids Canada is pleased that the government intends to work closely with well established non-governmental organizations that have expertise and outreach to communities across the country,” says Pamela Fuselli, Executive Director, Safe Kids Canada. “We must do more and we will continue to urge the government to implement a comprehensive national strategy that supports the prevention of all causes of injury, hospitalization and death, as indicated in the Throne Speech on March 3, 2010.”
