Safe Crossing Program

Did you know that in 2010, there were 261 railway grade crossing and trespassing incidents that resulted in 62 serious injuries and 81 fatalities in Canada? The majority of these could have been prevented! You can help reduce the risk of injury by providing consistent safety messages to the children you work with.

Safe Kids Canada and CN are pleased to offer a comprehensive, easy to use, national rail safety education program. Developed with key partners, the suggested activities connect rail safety to language, science, sociTeacher presenting safety book to classal sciences, health and physical education for children ages five to 12.

Each Safe Crossing Program activity plan includes learning objectives, step-by-step activities, participant assessment and evaluation, in addition to follow up activities.  We invite you to utilize our activity plans to the fullest, and share comments with us.

For your convenience, we have made the rail activities available by grade.
