Parents urged to keep medications and other potential poisons
Locked Out of Reach

March 14th to 20th is National Poison Prevention Week. Safe Kids Canada, in partnership with Health Canada and the Canadian Association of Poison Control Centres, is reminding parents and caregivers about the dangers of unintentional poisoning and offering tips on how to keep children safe. Each year an estimated five Canadian children under 14 die and another 1,280 end up in the hospital with serious injuries due to poisoning.

Parents and caregivers are urged to keep chemicals, medications, cleaning supplies and art supplies not meant for children safely stored in a locked cabinet or box, out of the reach of children. If a poisoning is suspected, call your local Poison Control Centre or 911 immediately. Read more

Got Wheels, Get a Helmet!

Safe Kids Week 2010
( May 31st - June 5th )

Head injuries are the #1 cause of serious injury and death to kids on wheels.

This year we have chosen "Got Wheels? Get a Helmet!" as our theme for Safe Kids Week 2010. Safe Kids Week is the largest annual national child injury prevention awareness campaign in the country, brought to Canadians by Safe Kids Canada and our generous sponsor Johnson and Johnson.

While Canada has come a long way in the development and implementation of helmet standards, practices and laws, there is still a lot more that can be done to keep kids safe.

To do your part in promoting helmet use, register for Safe Kids Week 2010 today!

About Safe Kids Canada

About Safe Kids CanadaUnintentional injury is the leading cause of death among children in Canada. We work to keep kids safe. Safe Kids Canada collaborates with partners across the country to conduct research, raise awareness, educate families, and advocate for safer environments to protect children from injury.

"Injuries continue to be the number one cause of death for kids. But it doesn't have to be that way. Giving parents practical and reliable solutions to keep kids safe - that's what we do," says Pamela Fuselli, executive director, Safe Kids Canada.
